Hello Creandum

TL;DR I’m helping Creandum as (Interim) Head of Marketing for the next year or so.

We’ll be upgrading the underlying marketing OS, while helping more people learn about the incredible founders, funds and culture that make it one of the best investors in Europe — and the world.

In 2013, I’d crammed a lot into the first five years of my career. I’d worked in agencies, an incredible startup, Wired, and started managing a community of thousands of tech journalists and PRs. But I had the urge for something new — and ultimately, that gave birth to Augur.

The first Augur website. I proposed to my wife the same day we launched.

Five years later, we were riding high with great clients, money in the bank and real progress on our mission to reconsider and re-engineer PR and Comms for our audience. But the itch returned — and this time combined with the knowledge I wanted to start a family and support my wife as much as I could.

So I dipped my toe in some new waters, taking on part-time projects as Head of Comms + Content at VCs including Forward Partners and Notion Capital. And continuing projects through Augur for companies like Sedna, Cronofy and Ably (who I also invested in, and am delighted to see thrive.)

Through Covid, it made sense to keep things lean, not rush anything with Augur (or anything else) and ultimately soak in spending time with my young family. I’ll never forget months operating out of my childhood home with my daughter the same age I was when I moved there.

That brings us to today. I’ve another baby on the way, which is an experience I won’t sacrifice to scale Augur — and that has given me another window to do something new.

I was aware of Creandum as investors in previous clients like Planday and Pleo. But when I talked to Felicitas last summer, I got my first taste of the culture and depth of their success. And when it became apparent she would need cover across maternity leave, it seemed too good an opportunity to miss.

I actually just got back from the team offsite, in the beautiful crisp and calm Swedish archipelago. And nothing better confirms why I’m so glad to be joining them for this next step.

They always dress like this. I don’t know why.

To me, the joy of a career is in coming together with smart people and finding solutions to challenges so they achieve the success they deserve. This is a place with really great people, really interesting challenges, really interesting success stakes.

The other side of that, who knows. But I do know I’ll be grateful for all the experiences that got me there, and the ones no doubt ahead.

I also want to say a huge thank you to Felicitas Hagen for all her epic work on the foundations at Creandum, and in both her handover to hit the ground smoothly and making me feel welcome. I will keep it safe!
